Remember how I said it took me awhile to get Mara’s room looking somewhat situated? Well… it’s taken me even longer with Zano’s room! After 6 months of living in our new house, Zano’s big boy room is finally looking like a real bedroom!  (And in case you’re curious on pronouncing Zano’s name, it’s like this:  Z-AH-NO, read more about his name here). Until this point, Zano’s room has been a toy dumping ground and a place for him to sleep. Nothing about his room felt like him, or carried any resemblance of his room at our old house. So, on a rainy afternoon when the kids weren’t home, I had the urge to get this space whipped into shape.

The biggest change I made was re-positioning the bed to be centered in the room instead of being positioned length wise against the wall. Placing a bed against the wall is a great option if a room is on the smaller side and can also allow for play area in the center of the room.  My kids prefer to play in our living room, alllllll of our kids toys are in our living room (yay). Believe me, I tried to make Zano’s room the play room! But I was going crazy having two play spaces in our house, so I’ve fully embraced the living room play area and decided Zano’s room needs to be more organized and pulled together.

What I love about this space is how I carried a lot of the same items over from Zano’s room at our old house, like the Bison prints, the bed, and the Rejuvenation’s cypress double swing arm sconce (which we featured in our A Night In series).

I pretty much made only two updates to Zano’s decor, first I replaced his old Moroccan wool rug with a muted + distressed vintage rug (which I originally sourced to sell as part of my new rug collection launching soon, but LOVE it in here too much!) which measures about 7’x7′ and is much better size and fit for this space than the Moroccan rug. Second, I changed out his bedding to this fun gingham duvet comforter, and styled his bed with pillows and a braided tassel blanket, all from my shop (Gray Striped XXL Lumbar + Vertical Striped Lumbar, Atlas blanket in Natural).  Such simple changes that make a huge impact, don’t you think? It goes to show, if you have a great foundation to a space, in this case the bed, nightstand, and lighting, you can easily change out textiles for a fresh new look without breaking the bank.

    1. Would you mind giving honest feedback about the bed? I am debating buying three for my boys shared space and want to hear honest feedback before I bite the bullet! Thanks in advance.

      1. My truly honest feedback on the bed: I LOVE LOVE it! Like I would buy it again in a heart beat. If it were $600 I would buy it. We also have the coordinating dresser in white, and I will say the dresser is not as good of quality as the bed (the drawers don’t go in smoothly or line up well). Friends of mine bought the bed in Cal King and love it too.

    2. As a mom of two older boys (12 and 15), I applaud you for keeping those kids in the main area as much as possible! I know and remember well the frustration (because, ALL the toys), but this habit of “nudging” everyone into one main living area has served us so well as the boys have gotten older. The payoff is huge. Good job, mama!

      Also this room is awesome.

      1. Thank you so much!! I think it’s a good tactic too, and love that we all collect in the same space – mess of toys or not!

    3. This is awesome! I love all the textiles and that sweet buffalo print above the bed. I’m pinning this for sure! After our renovation is complete, I’ll be redoing our kids rooms. This would be perfect for my son. Although he’s still in a crib for now! :)

    4. I love this room so much! I am super intrigued by the bed, but afraid because it’s cherry. I do not want a red wood, would prefer something more walnut. Would you say it reads more cherry IRL than it looks in these photos?

      1. I was afraid to buy it for the same reasons! It’s definitely not cherry in person, it reads like a true medium walnut. Promise!
