  • Fireplace Renovation: The Inspiration

    fireplace before

From quite literally day one of owning our home, I knew our fireplace needed a makeover. Fast forward almost 2.5 years and we’re finally doing just that! Above is the before, after major renovations of removing walls and installing flooring etc. Below is what the room looked like when we bought the house ::gasp:: so. much. beige.

    before-before

We always envisioned a beefier fireplace surrounded by built in bookshelves. Our house lacks serious storage, so lower cabinets were crucial to include in the design. Below is my fancy 1 minute rendering:

This isn’t a ground breaking design, but I’ve seen it executed in dozens of different ways. I rounded up my favorite fireplaces and shelving that I tagged as inspiration.

Clean and modern is the look we’re going for. I love the look of a natural stone as the fireplace surround, with a simple, clean mantle. I think it’s safe to say Shea and Amber are the fireplace + shelving design goddesses.

    1. Love those images you have used as inspiration! We moved into our home just over a year ago and I feel like we are making it our own at a snail’s pace. I’m glad to know we are not alone! Looking forward to seeing the finished result!

    2. I can’t wait to see yours. Have loved seeing everything on Instagram. I’ve been wanting to makeover ours too but its on an odd angle and if I’d make it chunky the way I want it it hits the sides. I’ve been unsure what to do.
