I’ve been meaning to announce this for a while – we got a new front door! I refuse to show you the original front door – it was original to the house (which isn’t always a good thing), hallow, and painted this hideous brown/maroon color which just isn’t my cup o’ tea. The only redeeming quality of our original door was that it had a single diamond light at the top, which is characteristic to doors in the 60’s. My goal was to carry the original mid-century diamond style forward into a new, modern, heavy, solid wood front door, with brass accents of course.

We shopped around and got a few quotes, ideally we didn’t want to spend more than $1000 for the door. Golden State Lumbar gave us the best price which I believe was in the $900 range.  Our contractor that was working on our fireplace at the time had his buddy stain the door in his shop for us, which was another $200ish.

The best part about the door has to be the hardware! The door hardware is from Emtek, in perhaps the most luxurious brushed brass finish. I can’t seem to find the set we bought on their website :/

If you’re worried about the glass in the door being overly revealing, we actually had the windows covered in opaque film so that we could get privacy but still allow for ample light to enter. I originally wanted to get the glass frosted, but it was going to be more costly and a step you had to do before fabricating the door, anyway, the film actually looks incredible! We hired a a window tint guy to do it for us on both sides of the window, I think it came out to $75.

Total for a new custom front door: $1175, not bad!
