When my husband and I were preparing to welcome our first kid, we made decisions primarily based on an expectation that we might be a one-income household. Our new budget was TIGHT, and impacted every product we brought into our home. We were unsure what the future would be for me, whether I would be a working mom or not, and adjusted our spending habits with this in mind. Believe it or not, we actually bought our home on that same “one income” budget we made, even though at the time we were both bringing home enough for a house twice the size of ours. Anyway, long story short – being a one-income household in the Bay Area is close to impossible and yes, I am a working mom.
One of the things I felt we compromised with our first kid was the mattress we chose for the crib. I essentially bought the cheapest mattress (with the most decent reviews) off of Amazon Prime, and while it did the trick with kid #1, it wasn’t a mattress I wanted him to continue to sleep on as he transitioned out of his crib. Infant mattresses are such a hot topic, and in no way am I an expert on which is best, but I definitely wanted to re-think the choice we had made – something safe, something natural.
I was first introduced to Brentwood Home around the same time we were hunting for a twin mattress for Zano’s big boy bed. While our choice was already made for his bed, I knew immediately I wanted to incorporate a Brentwood Home product in our home someway, somehow. I was so happy to learn they offer a kids product line, because high quality sleep shouldn’t just be offered to adults!
Brentwood Home is based in Los Angeles, every product they sell is handcrafted in their LA facilities. The company is so prideful in the fact the California lifestyle is essentially woven into their products, from natural and organic materials to the maker movement that captivates Californians. Obviously being a Californian myself, I get it, I want it, I appreciate it.
For our new baby girl’s crib mattress we chose the Wildfern 2-Stage crib mattress. I would never have guessed Zano would have transitioned to a big boy bed so quickly and easily, and can’t expect our second kid to do this – let’s be honest! The Wildfern 2-stage crib mattress is designed for the first two stages of sleep for your child: one side, the infant side, which is firm, and the second side for toddlers, which is slightly softer. The infant side features a Coconut Coir Core, while the toddler features an added layer of plush organic latex.
I’m also pleased to report the mattress is finished with easy to clean waterproof panels, made with non-toxic food grade polyolefin. You could literally eat off this mattress! In reality, the point being your little one’s wet diaper won’t penetrate the material.

I want to send a big thank you to Brentwood Home for partnering with us on this post, and for all readers who support the partners that keep this blog running.
Ironically, our Brentwood Dandelion crib mattress was just delivered today. We were very budget-conscience with everything else for the nursery; however, we felt better knowing their mattress was eco-friendly and chemical free. I’m so glad to hear that you’re happy with their products!
