TODAY IS THE DAY! 6 weeks ago I joined 17 other bloggers on a fun challenge. We were each challenged to revamp one needy room in our home and would have 6 weeks go get ‘er done. 6 weeks may sound like a decent amount of time, but boy does it fly by!
First of all, let me just say how incredible (!!!!) it feels to have a decorated master bedroom. I won’t even post the before photo just yet because I seriously don’t want to blind you before you get to all the pretty pictures (you can see the scary before HERE). I have a bunch of DIY tutorials to share with you in later posts as well, so look out for those in the coming days/week.
Alrighty, I’ll stop talking now so we can just devour these photos together…
I’ve moved my dear ballerina around my house like I was playing musical chairs. I’m confident she’s finally found her resting spot! I love her in this room!
The first major update I made was actually creating a designated workspace. I’m so excited about this! You see my West Elm Mirrored Parson’s desk? Craigslist find like 2 years ago. I scored that desk for $100. ONE HUNDRED dollars! SO CHEAP. I’m just so happy to be using it as it’s purposed, rather than using it as a storage spot for my giant euro pillows. This leads me to ask, what do you do with your sham pillows??? It’s pretty much impossible to make my bed every day, so my pillows tend to reside on the floor, or in previous situations, on top of my desk! I think the solution is to get rid of them all together.
Remember my gold leaf chair?? I like to think it was this glorious chair that started the gold trend [pat’s self on back]
This is the mister’s side of the bed. If only he knew how lucky he is to touch that lamp every night! I was originally intending to go with a different nightstand (and headboard for that matter) but time and money are usually what dampers my plans. I don’t like that the nightstand gets lost in the black paint. The light source in our room is on the opposite wall, so getting natural light for this shot was a bit difficult. Also, these photos make me realize I need to get a better shot of our rug. It’s BEAUTIFUL. I’ll post another day about it.
Definitely the mix of white linens and white dressers against the black dipped walls help the room to feel sizeable and bright. Everything just pops so nicely against the black walls, something I never really imagined to experience in person.
So many perfect elements were married in this room: my love for black & white & gold, my foraging ways, my obsession with Clare Elsaesser (I have another print in route but it didn’t make it in time for the reveal), my thrifting finds (hello $15 mid-century mirror & horse bookends!).
I did the most risky thing ever (for me) in this bedroom. I’m not much of a trendy gal, yes I love black & white & gold but classics are hardly categorized as trendy, so this was really the first time I jumped on a trend that felt like the right thing to do. I dipped my walls and I’m not afraid to say it! I am utterly infatuated with my walls! That crisp black line! Hot mama!
Painting the walls this way was a last minute decision. I was originally going to add some wall paneling or wainscot of sorts, but time just did not allow. I knew my white furniture would get lost in white walls so I had to do something out of the box, and dipping my walls felt like the absolute perfect solution.
You might wonder if our room looks smaller. Quite the opposite actually! And our room looks defined, grown up even!
And just for that impressive before & after, here is the master bedroom before:
And after!

The dipped walls are awesome!!!! There are so many details I love about this room. Your headboard, the art, the lighting. You rocked this challenge so hard!

The wall looks great! As far as the Euro sham goes it def just sits on the floor which is aggravating but I love them too much to get rid of them!
that’s my problem too! and now they’re on the floor as we speak haha.
WOW. This transformation is stunning! Those black-dipped walls are divine and absolutely perfect for making everything pop! I just love your art choices in here and of course your thrifted finds! So gorgeous!

So pretty Brittany! The “dipped” walls look amazing and I’ve always loved your headboard!
Love the walls, Brittany! Such impact for little money and time. The whole space looks great, and its wonderful to see some of those treasures of yours again. :)
Such a great space! The black and white walls are amazing! And I’m loving the curtains and ballerina, too :)
Are we really getting rid of the pillows?!? Yessssss!!!!
It looks beautiful, Brittany!
Really beautiful. Did you say you’re getting rid of the headboard?! Noooo…I’ve always loved it! I really adore all of the changes and touches – the drapery fabric, the black and white wall, the hardware on the black nightstand. And done so well, so it doesn’t feel like a clusterf*** of stuff but like a really intentional collection of beautiful things :)
Tres chic! Love it all !!!! xoxo
