Until now all four corners in my living room have been pretty meh. When we moved in I threw a Billy bookcase against a wall and pretty much just unpacked every accessory box we had and used the bookcase as accessory storage. It was messy and looked hoarder-ish at best. The second thing I did, which was a total disaster, was unpack ALL my throw pillows and threw them on the sofa. I’m not kidding, I had like 20 throw pillows on my sofa for almost two months! I did have a reason for it at one point – I was 9 months pregnant and needed to surround myself with pillows in order to be comfortable – but that didn’t last very long because soon I couldn’t sit on the sofa at all and sat mostly on the ground and used the sofa as back support. It’s embarrassing that I let all my pillows take over my living room. We even had company over when our sofa was in that state! I’ve blocked out the memories.
Well, I FINALLY cleared our sofa of said pillows, like all of them. I couldn’t take it anymore so shoved them all in bags and put them in storage. I wanted to start fresh, so I went to the fabric store and bought 2 yards of navy velvet and made two pillow covers. It took a couple days and some strategic nap time planning but I was able to make both covers during one of baby Zano’s naps, which I shamelessly pat myself on the back for accomplishing since sewing velvet is the worst. thing. ever. Have you tried it? It’s dumb.
I firmly believe every sofa needs at least one velvet pillow regardless of season. Velvet is visually stimulating, it’s interesting and warm and photographs really well. If sewing your own velvet pillows stresses you out like it does to me, World Market sells a bunch of velvet pillows at the best prices, I’m talking navy, aqua, coral to name a few.
So far I’m pleased with the progress of our living room, decor wise that is. I just bought some white paint, soon we’ll be saying adios to those beige walls! I can’t wait!

I love it all. That chair is such an eye catching piece and I adore the bookcase. The velvet pillow is fabulous and yes, they really are so hard to sew.
i love the mixture of textiles! it is looking so good, brittany!
Looks fabulous ~ as usual! Wish you could come and help me with a bookcase. :)

I love this sneak peek!! It’s looking so awesome. And thanks for the tip about the world market velvet pillows. I just loveee that store!! Can’t wait to see the room after you paint. :)
Just this little corner is awesome Brittany! I love your chair in here. And I adore the print on your mantle!
Gorgeous, Brittany!! I covet that fabulous chair every time I see it!
It looks great! Your styling is always so pretty! I love the velvet covers from World Market and you can’t beat the price.
Looks great, can’t wait to see it with paint. Ikea sells some nice velvet pillows that are good because the covers are removable (washable) for those of us with kiddos.
Drool! It’s so pretty and I really want that golden clip light!
would you mind sharing your source for the snow leopard fabric on THAT FABULOUS CHAIR? Maybe you have somewhere else on the blog? I just recently started following you, but I will go back and look and see if I can find it… but if you can tell me (I love the scale of the print, and I have such a hard time figuring that out shopping online) that would be super-awesome also!!!
Hey Julie! You know, that fabric was a lucky find. I found it on fabric.com a little over a year ago and I haven’t seen it on their site since :( I do hunt eBay for snow leopard velvet fabric from time to time.. Sorry, I wish I had a direct link to share! The print really is perfect…
