It feels like I’ve been planning the nursery for ages, it was all I could think about to get me through our “in-between” living situation. We moved out of our loft last fall and into my brother’s house with the goal to save money for when the baby comes. There was a minute there when I was worried we wouldn’t find a place to live and I’d be bringing home a baby to my brother’s house! No, it wouldn’t have been the end of the world, but it would have felt weird that’s for sure.
Anyway, while we were saving money and living like bachelors, but married, all I could do was plan a nursery to keep my sanity.
My original intentions were to keep things neutral; a palette of light grey, black, and white with subtle pops of navy, all tied together with the natural elements and textures of bamboo and sea grass. I am fully aware the room will be decked with all sorts of toys in primary colors, which honestly I think will balance better in a neutral space, so if you’re wondering where the color will come from, my answer is: toys!
It’s been so fun acquiring some of these items and physically pairing them together. Obviously there are a lot of other items needed to fill a nursery, like a dresser/changing table, lamps, diaper genies and other random knick knacks. I’ll have to fill in those details as we develop the nursery. First things first, I need to paint! I’m still having trouble seeing past our beige walls…
Sources: Elephant menagerie bookend from Serena & Lily | silver roadster from Land of Nod | giraffe print from The Animal Print Shop | rocker from Home Decorators (although we ordered ours in Zanzibar Snowcap which doesn’t seem to be available. Sachi White is closest) | Chalkboard globe – plan to DIY | marquee letter – plan to DIY | elephant bamboo mobile from Layla Grace | elephant hamper from Amazon | spotted crib sheet from Target | Babyletto Skip crib from Amazon (it’s actually much more orange in person, I’m considering painting it or stripping it… we’ll see) | cloud pillow – originally from Target but no longer available, plan to DIY
I’m paying close attention to your nursery board because I will be an aunt soon. I love the spotted sheets and I have been wanting a chalk board globe for myself ;)
adorable!!! i love this mix- can’t wait to see what you do!
Looks great! Love the idea of keeping it neutral to play off of the toys!
First – I can’t even handle the cuteness of that Elephant bookend. Then – I clicked through & discovered there are other animals too?! I want them all. :) And I like the design direction of a neutral background allowing for pops of colorful toys – now that is thinking ahead!
Can’t wait to see this all come together! I know it will be lovely!
can’t wait to see it, love all the pieces you’ve picked!
