My walls are BLUE!
I’m pretty sure I’ve been avoiding introducing you all to our bedroom. It’s generally a mess, the bed is never made, pillows everywhere, dog beds on the floor… just a real life, lived-in mess.
We were forced to make quick and rash decisions when we first moved in, which I kind-of regret now. There are so many windows in our bedroom it was almost impossible to sleep past sunrise when we first moved in, so I had to throw up some curtains before I really considered the future of this space.
The fabric is beautiful, don’t get me wrong, but it never felt like ‘me’, and I got tired of these curtains rather quickly.
Once I finished our headboard, the first change I wanted to our bedroom was replace the curtains. I wanted a navy velvet curtain, and this option was what I was hoping for, but sadly the navy from last year is no longer in stores. They do have some other colors available, including a beautiful gray that could be a good option over the navy. I was being super indecisive when I bought them, so instead of being half-happy with the gray velvet, I decided on some (cheaper) linen curtains instead. The linen curtains work for now, they don’t block all the light so I’ll probably switch to a thick velvet later, but I do think these linen curtains work in maintaining that open, light filled and airy feel we have about our loft.
I still wanted something navy in our bedroom, and considering I wasn’t able to buy affordable navy velvet curtains, I made the executive decision to paint our bedroom wall! I tried a few navy paint samples and settled on Sherwin Williams Royal Blue. This color has a lot of depth to it, in one light it looks super dark and mysterious, and in another, very bright and saturated.
This was the first time I tried Sherwin Williams indoor paint, and I’m not sure if it was the type of paint, or the fact that I was painting a darrrrrk color, but it took about 4 coats before it looked complete. I topped it off with a 5th coat just to empty the paint can. But 5 coats! Boy is that’s a lot of painting.
I shopped around for some fabric, some pillows to coordinate all the colors going on in the bedroom, and so far I think it’s coming along great! I started with the linen & black velvet trellis fabric, which we used on our headboard, then found this gorgeous shade of dark navy velvet which I’m using on a project yet to be revealed. With those two fabrics, I hunted down this green and blue palm print from West Elm, which I accidentally found at Home Fabrics & Rugs. I can’t find it available online anywhere, maybe I should go back for more! Anyway, I’m totally loving this collected mix of blues and greens, beiges and whites.
That being said, our bedroom is far from finished, but I’m a happy cat with what we’ve done so far! And blue walls? DO EET!
weak in the knees!
Woohoo for navy walls!!! I just tried Sher Will paint for the first time too and it took lots of coats to get coverage as well. I looooove what you’ve done so far. The color and patterns are amazing!

I love it! I’ve been thinking for a while about painting a wall navy. I love how yours turned out, and the fabric you chose is awesome.
Oh, that is a lovely blue. Lovely, lovely blue. Great choice! And those fabrics are calling my name.

Wow, I LOVE the blue! I’m always so drawn to white walls, but deep down want to try something daring like bright blue! It looks so dramatic and romantic :)

YESSSS! My living room walls are that color and I wish more
people used it. A lot of the blogs are gray and lighter colors these days. Way
