    banner-INTRO

Hello from Lake Como! I hate to keep rubbing it in, but boy is this place heaven on earth.  There’s so much to explore, and 3 days just isn’t enough.  We have one more day ahead of us here, which we’re currently planning to hike the old trails of Menaggio, where cigarette smugglers used to sneak back into Italy from Switzerland with tax-free booty.  Store that in your random trivia knowledge bank :P

Let’s get to the fun stuff, shall we? Today’s VIP guest blogger is Cassie from Primitive and Proper!

    Cassie_intro TELL-US

Hello Brittany Makes fans!  I am so excited to be crashing Brittany’s blog while she is away attending to major life decisions, like saying those two simple words, “I do!”.  I am so happy for her!  Who am I?  I am Cassie from Primitive and Proper, a blog where I share furniture makeovers, my own home projects, snippets of the Sweet Clover barn sale I run with my partners, as well as our family’s adventures and misadventures.

That’s me!  Sorry fo the grainy selfie, but I don’t have any great head shots of myself recently.  And on most days I typically look like this, still sporting my clothes from working out or running, and using power tools….

Brittany was kind enough to supply me with some questions she thought you might like answers to.  So here goes!

    Favorite-Summer-Tradition

We live out in the country, so there is nothing better than a quiet night spent on the porch with my family.  We like to eat dinner, sip some wine, play several rounds of UNO, and end the evening catching fireflies!  It’s simple, but it’s what summer is about to me.  Here are my kiddos, with fireflies in their hands one evening a couple weeks ago…

    Color-Crush

I always come back to blue… always.  And in the summertime, I love the beachy shades of aqua.  Check out these images and tell me what is not to love? (Click on the image to be taken to the pin)

I think I need to paint something aqua.  NOW!  Be right back, k?

    Show-the-world

Aside from the amazing American poem and picture I drew of a bald eagle for our first grade booklet, my next favorite project would be my master bedroom.  It is still sort of a work in progress (as is most of the house!), but I am really happy with it.

The gold leafed nightstands were actually inspired by Brittany’s famous gold leafed chair!  Here are the nightstands before the rest of the room was painted and put together…

    BLOGGER
I am fortunate to have actually met several bloggers I have connected with, so I can check all of those friends off my list!  There are certainly several more people I would love to meet, but one person who has amazing style, and a witty sense of humor (which is a requirement in my friends) is Emily Henderson.  She’s just so adorable- I really can’t say there is anything about her I don’t love.  I love her so much I even subjected myself to the videos she recently shared of her family performing together in a show back when she was a kid.
    Pet-Peeve
OK, I have a couple actually… one pertains to furniture makeovers.  That would be the dreaded double knob.  Nothing irritates me more than when someone makes over a piece of furniture, and removes a 3-4″ pull and rather than filling the holes and drilling a new center hole, they place two knobs in the existing holes.  It looks awful, and it’s plain lazy.  Sorry people, if you have done it.  It just gets under my skin!
And when it comes to decor…. furniture sets.  You know, like someone just went down to roomstore and bought the room.  It feels so impersonal.  A house should reflect the people who live there!
Thank you so much for having me today, Brittany!  I wish you a lifetime of wedded bliss.  Cheers!

And thank YOU Cassie!  For those of you meeting Cassie for the first time, check out her home tour, especially that map wall she created in her playroom! Incredible! I can’t wait to have kids so I can decorate a playroom… in due time!

    1. Did you see George Clooney at Lake Como? LOL sorry just had to ask the stupid question.

Well, it’s common knowledge that I love Cassie! And I agree with her about Emily (love her too) and the double knob hatred.

Cassie is one of the sweetest bloggers out there and has great style, talent and HUMOR!

    2. Love love love Cassie! So stinkin sweet and hilarious. And I had no clue that people did the whole double knob thing!?! But, ya…that is pretty bad.
