New Rug Arrivals are in. Check out what's new!
  • blog goals 2013, & how did I do last year?

Hello! Happy New Year everyone! I can’t believe it’s a new year already (actually, 4 days into the new year, but who’s really counting?)

You guys know me – my home projects move rather slowly around my house since I work so much, but that hasn’t stopped me from drafting a to-do list for 2013! I realize now my 2012 list of 3 items was mighty ambitious, the only thing I accomplished was moving out! Ouch! Well, in my defense the other 2 items were huge projects, reupholstering a sofa? Building a headboard? Both items are being carried over to 2013, don’t judge!

Let’s talk about New Year’s blog goals today.  I have 3 biggies for the new year:

WORK SMARTER – this is tough for me.

I might sound like a broken record, but I truly have a limited amount of time for projects.  Usually when I think of a new idea, or start a new project, I get really excited and motivated to work on it ‘right this very minute’.  I’m not always able to finish a project in one day.  The toughest part is once I’ve paused, gone to bed, worked a full day the next day, and then have the next chance to work on the project, my mind has often raced onto the next thing.  I blame it on day dreaming at work (or Pinterest, am I right?) and I find it’s a mental struggle to get back into the flow of a project.

My solution to this is: I need to be smarter about laying out the schedule or plan for each project.  For example, today I strip and paint a chair, tomorrow I sew the double-welt cord, and the next day I staple.  If I have a plan, a schedule per se, of what I need to accomplish on a given day, I’m more opt to complete projects timely! (Man, do I sound like an accountant).

BE ME – Yeah! Be me! Go girl!

What do I really mean by this? As much as I want this blog to be a perfect haven full of crafts, tutorials, home projects, and the like, it’s not a sustainable expectation. I’m going to focus on being real and true to myself and my interests, like how my love for tufted furniture has grown, or why I think it’s OK to own a French Louis chair AND a Danish wishbone chair. Does it really matter if my design is cohesive?  As long as it’s ME, it’s good enough for ME!

ENJOY THE SMALL THINGS – and write about the small things!

I don’t mean fluffy posts (you know, the things you write about when you don’t have better things to write about?).  Life is made up of a million small things, and a few big things, and I think a revolution is in store to embrace all the small things that make up who we are and what we love to do every day.

I think these are decent blog goals for this new year.  Check back later for my list of projects to complete for 2013, I will be sharing some photos of my loft that have never been shared… gulp.
