  • DRAPES FOR MY BEDROOM WINDOWS

Slowly but surely, things are starting to come together in our loft.  The most recent update being, I sewed new drapes for our bedroom windows! This has been a tremendous feat. We have 6 giant windows in our bedroom, on 14′ ceilings… do the math, that’s a lot of fabric!  My man was patient enough to let me bargain hunt for just the right fabric (at the right price) so that we wouldn’t break the bank.  I’m pretty sure I found the perfect fabric.  And guess what?

    It’s red.

Beautiful, right? I found this fabric for $3/yard at Home Fabrics & Rugs, and bought the entire bolt, roughly 34 yards.  It’s a linen blend, pretty heavy duty, and works perfectly to block out all that light when we’re sleeping!

Here’s what our bedroom looked like when we first moved in:

    And now…

I crafted a curtain rod out of copper plumbers pipe, then hung up individual panels to cover each window.  I chose to sew the panels with the ruffle at the top.  Too bad the ceilings are so tall, it’s nearly impossible to open and close the curtains from the ground.  I plan to buy the curtain rings with clips so we can easily open and close the drapes.

I like to display my favorite things on my dresser.  Unfortunately I also use my dresser as a catch-all table, so it’s rare when the top is this clean.  In my mind’s eye, it looks just like this always!

My jewels, necklaces etc.  I think I made each one of these necklaces, and two were featured here on the blog! Read here, and here.

And an old fan I got for free.  It was actually a two-fer purchase, I bought one fan for $20 and got another for free!  There’s some crack in the back that the vendor must have been ashamed of, because he basically just put it in my hands while I was purchasing the other fan.  What a nice guy.

And because we all love a good before and after, here ya go!

Watch out for a tutorial on how I made my drapes, and a tutorial on how to craft a curtain rod out of copper plumbers pipe!
