New Rug Arrivals are in. Check out what's new!
  • I Spy a DIY – #1

I have some exciting news for everybody! Today, I'm launching a new weekly series here at brittanyMakes, and I'm calling it "I Spy a DIY."  It's almost exactly what you think – I'm going to share with you a killer DIY project that I spied out in the blogosphere that week.  My idea is that I'll stumble upon some mind-blowing DIY project that must be shared. There are so many incredible, creative projects out there, and I know I cannot do them all, so its only natural that they should be shared.

Low and behold, as I was playing around on the internet yesterday thinking about the start of this very series, the perfect DIY project just fell in my lap!  Let me introduce you to my new friend Erin of House of Earnest.

Erin DIY'd these enamel dipped wooden spoons.  Oh my goodness! I want to squeeze them, they are soooo adorable.  I emailed Erin and begged asked if I could feature her project as the first I Spy.  She said yes!

Erin had been eyeing some fun colored enameled serving spoons for a quite some time.  I didn't even know they existed!  While Erin was out searching for a paella pan, she spotted a bunch of wooden spoons sitting next to the register.  That was when she decided to paint some herself.

Erin lays out the steps very simply: she taped her line, used a bit of craft paint, and finished it off with a high gloss food-safe shellac to give it that shiny enameled look.  Erin makes sure to warn, you want to hand wash the finished wooden spoons, as with any wooden kitchen accessory.  Also, be mindful of the painted area when cooking with the spoons, as they could melt or chip.

Aaah! I seriously can't get over how precious these enameled wooden spoons are.  I want to make hundreds, in all the colors of the rainbow. I love Erin's blog, if you haven't checked her out, do so now! You'll be hooked on first read.
