Thrifting is an obsession, it's an unquenchable thirst, or an itch you just can't seem to scratch. There are days when I just need to go out and dig through some junk, and yesterday was one of those days. I have a few secret spots by my office that I'll sneak off to during lunch, in hopes I'll come across another $6 french chair or some other pot of gold. There is what appears to be a junk yard a few blocks from my office, it's the same place where I found the set of antique dining chairs I restored.
Once you walk in, you're greeted with dozen of school chairs. Cute right?
Then, to the left, old toilets!
glasses, vases, jugs, old windows, second hand office furniture, whole and broken mirrors
Seriously, this place looks like an episode of hoarders. When I go to places like these, I'm usually searching for antique-y chairs, credenzas, dressers, coffee tables, lamps or chandeliers. And this market has all these things. I spotted these two modern chairs and wished I could scoop them up and give them some love. I think they have major potential…
I turned the corner and found this piece of kindling…
It just so happens, Better Homes & Gardens featured a chair exactly like this the other day.
Oh, I wanted that chair so bad. Turns out, one of the front curvy feet was hacked up, half of the curve was missing. Sad face.
There were some other awesome pieces, which thankfully were put inside and protected from the weather. I would have bought this drop leaf table in an instant, if only I had a space!
And this buffet table! Those nobs! Those pulls!
This dresser was buried beneath old school papers and children's artwork. I think I need to invest in a moving van and storage unit…
I'm kicking myself for not picking up that lamp. So pretty!
Looking for a matching bedroom set?
In my mind's eye, I see these pieces brought back to life like either of these two pieces,
or redone a tri-colored paint & stain combo similar to MMS's desk. See, those pulls are the same!
The last item I fell in love with was this gigantic diamond chandelier
It is so big! Can't you just imagine this chandelier hanging in a dark corridor at Hogwarts, or in some dark, velvety library abundantly full of leather bound books?
Unfortunately I didn't bring anything home with me this trip. Its not like I'd have any place to put things anyway! And I'd have the BF to answer to… he's a first-in-first-out kinda guy… gotta sell the first project before taking on the next!
Well, I hope everyone has a fun weekend planned! My parents and the BF's parents are meeting for the first time tonight… eek! I'll definitely let you all know how it goes, there's bound to be some meaty material or embarrassing story to share.
Ciao!
I discovered this place over the summer and have found the coolest chairs too!
i want to go here so bad! whats the name and where is it?
It’s the San Pablo Flea Market on the Oakland/Berkeley boarder. There are so many fun salvage places in Berkeley, Urban Ore, Ohmega Salvage, the Berkeley flea market on the weekends, just to name a few!
