  • Frosty Gold Pumpkin Berry Wreath

Happy Friday people! My birthday is tomorrow, woot! And I made myself a birthday present:

(Actually, I'm a day late on a Fall Door Decor linky party.  Sometimes life just gets in the way and you're not able to be the first in line.)

I made myself a wreath! And it took me less than an hour.  I spent most of the time figuring out how to tie that bow.

Our front door usually looks like this every single day, minus the pumpkins.  Our front door is bland, boring, has never been painted, and we have very ugly sconces with orange light bulbs left over from last Halloween.  The orange bulbs make for giving good directions at night.  What other house has an orange porch light?

But wait, it gets better – the boys in the house replace them with red or green bulbs for Christmas.  It's riviting, really.

My green pumpkin was looking a little sun bleached and sickly, certainly not what it looked like when I got it last week.  How do we cure a sickly looking pumpkin?  Spray it gold! Spray paint cures, I'm telling you. My roommates are worried they'll come home to spray painted dogs….

Alrighty, do you want to see how I made this wreath? It's seriously the easiest thing.  I bought pumpkin berry garland from Michael's.  If you check out the hundreds of other wreaths at the Fall Door Decor link party, guarantee you'll find a few berry wreaths.  You can't blame me, Michael's only has so large of a selection of garland! Plus, I'm a sucker for sales, and this garland was 50% off.

I usually add my own touch or flair to any project.  I didn't care for the solid red and orange colors of the berries, I thought they looked a little too artificial.  I decided to frost them with some gold metallic spray paint.  I didn't want them to be completely gold, just enough to tone down the bright reds and oranges.

Spray back and forth a couple times, be careful not to overcoat.  You want to let the color of the berries show underneath. Wait a minute then flip the garland over and repeat on the back side.

The wreath form was originally green.  I spray painted that puppy too.

You really don't have to wait very long.  Such light coats of paint only take a couple minutes to dry. Once all pieces were dry, I began assembling the garland on the wreath form.

I did not use any additional string or twine to secure the garland.  Since the garland itself is made of wire, I unwravelled the ends of the garland and wrapped them around the wreath frame to secure it in place.  Additionally, I took a couple of straggler berry branches and wrapped those around the wreath frame.

One 5-ft pack of garland will go 1 full circle around the wreath frame.  I used 2 packs of garland for this frame.  I am contemplating adding another to make the wreath more full.

Our front door has never looked better! Baby steps, people!
