  • Lake Shasta Shenanigans

I'm back! I'm happy to finally get time to share with you our little vacation to Lake Shasta.

First of all, I made sure to pack my Nikon and document the entire vacation.  I set a goal to take some sunrise and sunset photos.  I failed in waking up in time for the sunrise shots, but I did manage to get a few really great sunset pics.  I think they came out well, don't you?  I thought the color palette on both of these sunsets was so captivating.  I spent some time thinking 'how could match color swatches to these photos?' When in doubt, Google it!  I stumbled on this neat palette generator from this site, CSS Drive, where you can upload any image and it will generate simple, medium or complex color palettes based on your image.  It also allows you to export the palette as a CSS stylesheet.  Pretty genius right?

I just LOVE the warm hints of yellow, taupe, green, and blue from this sunset. I want to snuggle in the greenish color that sits between the blue sky and the yellow sunlight.

I snapped this shot as the last bit of light left the sky.  CSS Drive spit out a few palettes with different intensities, I selected the lighter palette because I can't get enough of these blue and gray hues in this image.

Lake Shasta is located a hair north of Redding, CA, and about an hour or so south of Mt. Shasta.  The most majestic thing about Mt. Shasta is that it's a dormant volcano and sits alone, dominating NorCal's landscape.  It's about a 3 hour drive from the bay area to Lake Shasta.

I really wanted to take an aerial photo of the lake, but that was a lot harder than I thought.  Google to the rescue! The lake is so beautiful and vast, there is always an area to ski or tube away from the traffic.  Look how beautiful it is! I didn't know until recently that the lake is artificial. It was made in the 1940's after the Shasta Dam was built to control the water flowing into the Sacramento river.

We had 14 adults and 3 nine-yr olds on the boat this trip.  Can you believe we fit that many people? We actually had plenty of room, we were just shy a couple futons.  Sleeping under the stars is my favorite part about camping on the lake. We caught the most epic shooting star Saturday night! It was beautiful. Something you just don't get to see if you live in a busy city.

This kid here, this was his first time wake boarding.  You see the air he got? He even landed that jump. We were all shocked and jealous of his mad skills.

My BF was having trouble with his life jacket, after every fall he'd find himself hanging out of the jacket in one way or another.  Doubtful the jacket would in fact save his life.  Time for a new life jacket I think…

Here's a throwback pic from our last trip. I can't believe I didn't take a picture with the BF this trip.  So stupid.

    Meeting2
We make the best memories from family vacations.  It just so happens that the BF and I met on Lake Shasta over 2 years ago, which means I can personally say this place is magical, and will always bring a smile to my face. Do you have a special vacation spot that brings out all the warm fuzzies of childhood or your favorite memories of family and loved ones?

Wish me luck for tonights Pinterest Meet-up!
